The shed is finally on the property!

Today's Photos

My contractor and I met on the property today. I got to check out the shed in person and take some photos.

He took some measurements. He will work out more details and then order the necessary insulation and plywood (not drywall in this case - after all it IS a shed).

When he has all the materials he will get in touch with me and we'll set up a day for me to be there so I can help with the installation. He's thinking we should be able to get it done in one time span (not sure how long that time span will be, but once we start, we should be able to keep going until it is finished). I don't know what role the weather will play in all this (hopefully the weather will cooperate), but I'm hoping to be completely moved to the property by the end of the year.

I may paint the inside white, just so it will better reflect and disperse whatever light is available (natural or artificial).

My WIPPRO diesel heater arrived

Today's Photos

My WIPPRO diesel heater arrived late yesterday. All I did was take it out of the shipping box and take pictures of it. My first few nights I'll most likely use my Mr. Heater Portable Buddy. But as soon as I can, I'll get the diesel heater set up and working.

On December 2nd my contractor and I discussed the next step - insulating, paneling and painting the interior. When I got home, I sent him a check for materials and labor. But since I hadn't heard from him about where he was in the process, I called him today. He doesn't go to a big box store to get his materials. He has a number of wholesale sources. He said there was some sort of problem with getting the materials from his preferred aupplier, so he would have to go to supplier #2. He said he would call me back on Monday (or maybe Tuesday) when he has something to report.

Even with all the delays that have been happening with the work being done to my property, God's timing looks like it will be perfect. I just today received notice that I have to be out of my apartment by the end of next month. I don't know what I would have done if that demand was given a couple of months ago.

Our apartment building has been sold and the new owner wants everyone out so he can refurbish all the apartments. The new owner said he wants to work with us since it is only about 5 weeks away. He said if I need an extra 10 days, that should be okay.

I'm hoping to hear from my contractor this coming Monday or Tuesday and I'm hoping he will have all the materials to start insulating the shed later that week. But since that week is Christmas week, we most likely won't be able to start until the day after Christmas at the earliest. And then comes New Year's. It looks like there may be a number of starts and stops, but hopefully it will all be done by the 10th of January or so. If so, that should give me enough time to move everything to my new residence.

Today I signed up for an 8'x9' mini-storage unit within walking distance from my apartment. I wanted an 10'x10', but none were available. This will get me started. If I need another one, I hope I won't need another one this size. I'm hoping I'll be able to get away with a smaller one.

I put 38 boxes in it so far. I'll move some more each day until my contractor says he is ready to start insulating the interior of the shed.

Day 3 of moving boxes into the storage unit. Yes, I know it's Christmas and I'm doing my best to remember the reason for the season, but I can't let any moss grow under my feet. I only have until the end of next month to vacate my apartment. I don't want to reach January 30th and not be done. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need another storage unit, but I don't know if it will be here or near my property. Most likely, one closer to my property.

Day 4 of moving boxes into the storage unit. I rented another storage unit about the same size, fortunately right next to mine. I'm pretty sure even that won't be enough, but between that and the U-Haul truck, I'm hoping I'll be okay. I'll move the last few things directly into the U-Haul and fill up whatever empty space is remaining with stuff from one of the storage units. Then I'll be out of the apartment and have more time to decide exactly how I'll get everything else left over to my property.
