Ramp to drive onto property

Today's Photos

Finished packing the truck and drove to the property. Fortunately there were no problems. I got started a bit later than I wanted, so after unpacking the truck and setting up the tent, I didn't have enough time to hook up the propane heater. It was a very cold night. I made it, but it wasn't comfortable.

Got the propane heater all hooked up. I definitely wasn't going to spend another night in the cold like last night. I'm hoping tonight will be much more comfortable. I also hooked up my solar electrical system. I have two 100 Watt panels, one 12V 100Ah AGM battery, a Renogy Wanderer 30A PWM solar charge controller and a 2,500W pure sine wave inverter. I should be ready for when my electronics run down.

I walked the property with my real estate agent, hoping to nail down the precise locations of all the corners. Long story short, that made it clear to me I need more accurate information. Fortunately the agent recommended a person who will do the same job (essentially) as a professional surveyor ($1,500) but for only $300.

Last night was MUCH more tolerable, though even with the Mr. Heater Buddy Portable running constantly on low (4,000 BTUs - high is 9,000 BTUs) it was just barely enough. For the next trip I'll put together a "tent-within-a-tent" setup. I had this in mind before I left for this trip, but as always, there never seems to be enough time to do everything and still be able to stick to a planned departure date and time. As it was, last night even with the heater pointed directly at me, because there was nothing to trap any of that heat, it simply dissipated through the very thin nylon walls of the 2 season tent.

Right now (for the tent-within-a-tent setup) I'm thinking of an A-frame type setup with fabric walls at the head, foot and back of my sleeping area (the side facing the heater will be completely open. I'm hoping that will retain enough of the heat that would otherwise be lost, to keep me even warmer.

I met with Jim (the surveyor). He has the training to mark my four corners accurately. We took a walk around the property so he will have a better picture in his mind of my property when we do the work tomorrow.

After we walked the property, he changed his price to only $100! He had said $300 earlier because he thought the property was larger. This was a very pleasant surprise. Thank you Jim.

Turns out Jim had a personal situation come up that precluded him keeping our appointment. He didn't know when he would be able to reschedule, so rather than sitting around doing nothing (for an unknown number of days), I decided to pack up and return home.

I had an appointment for tomorrow with my handyman to set up the four load bearing corner posts for all the barbed wire fencing. But since I now don't have the corner locations identified, I called him and cancelled. Unfortunately for me, this is the beginning of his busy season and now won't be available for some time.

I'll have to get back in touch with him and reschedule. Hopefully I can set things up so I can do both the corner locating and then the installation of the corner posts on the same trip (as I had originally planned for this trip).

Got home fine yesterday. Since I purchased the Ford, I've been wanting to replace the rear window/hatch of the shell (it had been removed before I bought it), but a new replacement costs $400. I talked to some people and they weren't very hopeful for my finding a used one anywhere. So I made up my mind to make a replacement. I'll post some pictures after I complete it.
